Each Class has a particular set of goods or services which helps to classify the Trademarks appropriately.
Following are the classification systems followed for Trademarks
- NICE Classification
- Vienna Code Classification
The Nice Classification is an International Classification of goods and services.
The recent 11th edition of the Nice Classification came into force on January 1, 2017.
NICE Classification consists of total 45 Classes, wherein Class 1-34 are related to Goods and 35-45 are related to Services.
Each class have “Explanatory Note” for better understanding aided with a unique “Basic No.” in that class which helps for better classification.

Vienna Code Classification
Vienna Code Classification is particularly used to classify Trademarks with figurative elements in it.
Vienna Code is a six digit code assigned by registry to the Trademarks having figurative element in it.
Vienna Code Classification consists of 29 Categories where each category have unique feature and is subdivided as divisions and sections, on the basis of their shape for better clarity.
